Margot James on BBC Question Time

On Thursday night Margot James – Conservative parliamentary candidate for Stourbridge appeared on BBC Question time! Margot, dubbed by the audience as “the lady in pink”, appeared alongside Foreign office minister Chris Bryant, Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik, Trisha Godard and the editor of the Financial Times.

Margot was a success – questions were put to her on issues such as the War in Afghanistan and the issue of Helicopter numbers – or lack of. Other topics that were raised were Conservative policy on Anti-Social behaviour and the Swine Flu pandemic. Margot also used her appearance to high light the amount money Britain pays to the EU. She said the figure “is too high and that we should certainly be paying less.”

Business as usual?

Well, what a week it’s been in the world of Politics! Labour have suffered not only two major election defeats, in which the Conservatives triumphed, but Gordon Brown has provided more proof, if any was needed that he is weak and unable to govern. I recall watching the news on Thursday night last week, and hearing the new that James Purnell had resigned; there and then I thought “this is it, he’ll be gone within the week!” Yet, the Scottish flag is still flying at half mast outside Downing Street! Gordon Brown has battered down the hatches, and barracked himself in; for now it would appear we are stuck with him. Despite there being a new cabinet, to which I use the term loosely, it’s still the same old story of initiative after imitative and leaked policy announcements. That’s not what this country needs; we need change – in the form of a Conservative government. In order to achieve this we must keep up the momentum on the campaign trail right across Dudley for the summer, so that when ever Gordon Brown decides to call an election, Dudley, Halesowen & Stourbridge are ready, and we can play our part in ceremoniously kicking out this pathetic prime minister. His stubbornness and ineptitude was funny to start with, now it’s just becoming annoying!

Commons Speaker Resigns

It is announced that Michael Martin will stand down as speaker of the House of Commons. In a statement to the house, Speaker Martin said “that he wanted to unite the house, and will stand down on the 21st June”.Possible contendors are former Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell, current Deputy Speaker Sir Alan Haselhurst and Sir George Young. However, there is talk of an Intrim speaker untill the next election, with names such as Anne Widdecombe being mentioned. The speakers decision to resign comes after a fortnight of intenese preassure on all MP’s over their expences, to which the Speaker is closely linked.

Mr Brown – Give Us An Election Now!

Today David Cameron stepped up the Conservatives campaign to ‘encourage’, possibly the most incompetent and disastrous Prime Minister this country has ever seen in modern times, to call a General election at the nearest opportunity. Mr Cameron urged party activists and supporters to support a newly established petition, to urge the Prime Minister to ask Her Majesty to dissolve Parliament. Mr Cameron wanted the “public to be able to pass judgment”, on a Parliament he says is in “pieces!”  This comes at a time when the Parliament which we should all have the greatest of respect for, is in turmoil following the expenses rows of late. Parliament in its current composition is rapidly beginning to look more tired and ‘past it’ with each passing day. Just think, how different was this country in 2005? In the past 4 years our country has changed for the worse, and the time has come for the people to have their verdict and breathe new life into the Commons Chamber. With that new life we hope to see installed into Parliament our very own Chris Kelly, Margot James and James Morris! Britain needs change, and to get it, we must ‘Sign For Change!’ Dudley must stand up and be counted; write to our local papers, get the message across to people on the door steps, and together we can all contribute to the removal of a Prime Minister, who for all the wrong reasons, will never be forgotten! Click here to sign the petition online!
